″The A- bomb What Happened to Hiroshima? ″
(46 min. Produced and copyrighted by RCC Broadcasting Co., Ltd. in cooperation with Nichiei Eizo Ltd.) is a documentary about the atomic bomb. Hiroshima’s RCC Broadcasting Co., Ltd. and Nichiei Eizo Ltd., which held unedited film footage of Hiroshima short in the autumn of 1945,right after bombing, created together an important educational document in both Japanese and English. One characteristic of the documentary is its focus on four principal aspects of the bombing: heat ray damage, blast damage, chaotic rescue efforts, and long term radiation damage, with personal testimonies from survivors. The goal is to make the content readily accessible even to younger people who know little about the bombing. The documentary focuses closely on the atomic bomb’s radiation effects, a
critical difference from conventional weapons. Viewers come face to face with the reality of radiation damage continuing into the present day, including radiation injuries immediately after the bombing, cancers appearing several years afterward, and cases of microcephaly among children born to women pregnant at the time of the bombing.
